Can Single Phase Solar Inverter and Three-phase Solar Inverter Be Connected Together?

Learn about solar inverters

A solar inverter is a device that can change the DC power in a solar battery into AC power. Inverter, also known as power adjuster and power regulator, is an essential part of photovoltaic power generation system. The working circuit of solar inverter must be a full-bridge circuit. By a series of filtering and modulation in the full-bridge circuit, the load and electricity of the current are changed to achieve the expected goal of the user.

The common solar power generation system mainly consists of four parts: solar panels, charging controllers, solar inverters, and batteries. Solar panels are devices that provide DC power and can convert solar energy into electric energy. The charging controller is mainly responsible for controlling the converted energy. The solar inverter converts the DC power of the battery panel into AC power for the storage of the battery. The battery mainly stores the AC power for people's use. The solar inverter plays a crucial role in the entire solar power generation system.

Can single phase solar inverters and three-phase solar inverters be connected together?

There is no problem with using three-phase four-wire electric meters for metering. The three-phase watt-hour meter is used to measure the electric energy output of the power source (or load consumption) in the three-phase AC circuit. Its working principle is the same as that of a single-phase watt-hour meter. The only difference is that it uses multiple sets of driving components and multiple aluminum discs fixed on the rotating shaft to measure the three-phase electric energy. The difference between three-phase four-wire active energy meters and single-phase energy meters is that it is composed of three driving elements and three aluminum discs fixed on the same rotating shaft. Its reading directly reflects the electric energy consumed by the three-phase. The three-phase is measured separately, allowing each phase to be different. Therefore, if one-phase power increases, it will not affect the other two phases.

Attention: When single phase grid tie inverter is connected to the grid, two issues should be noted. One is the problem of three-phase imbalance. Therefore, single-phase solar inverters should be connected to the phase with the maximum load as much as possible. If the load of the three phases is balanced, the power of the single phase should not be too large, and it is best not to exceed the load power. If the photovoltaic power is greater than the load power, when the photovoltaic system is connected to the grid, if the local load cannot consume it, it needs to be sent to a remote load or upper-level grid, which will cause the inverter voltage to rise. The more power is sent out, the higher the voltage will be. Seriously, it may cause the inverter to stop due to overvoltage protection.
